No Surprises Act and Good Faith Estimates

The No Surprises Act was established to prevent patients who are receiving out-of-network or self-pay services from surprise bills related to the cost of their healthcare. Under this act, health care providers are required to let clients know in advance about the expected costs of scheduled services. You are entitled to receive a “good faith estimate” for the estimated cost of any healthcare services you will be paying for yourself or without the use of insurance.

At True North Wellness, you will be provided with the rates for services that we offer in advance of receiving care with us. You can find our current service rates outlined in our Informed Consent and Practice Policies document, which you will be provided when you schedule your first appointment. A copy of this document will be saved in your client portal for your review, and we can provide you with an individualized Good Faith Estimate at any point at your request, based on your individual treatment needs.

About Good Faith Estimates

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

  • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
